Marisa Bolognino -  Principal

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! The Bay Ridge Elementary School for the Arts is committed to providing high standards and expectations for each student’s academic performance, participation, and responsible citizenship.

Our school mission is to develop the academic, social, and civic skills of our students in an atmosphere that fosters independent thinking and learning. With a highly effective partnership between the school, community, and home, our students will achieve a high standard of excellence.

Our teachers create opportunities for intellectual risk-taking, collaboration, problem-solving, and application of classroom learning to real-life situations. We implement strategies that promote ownership of learning and encourage students to pose questions, examine possibilities, and apply skills to find solutions to authentic issues.

I wish you all a wonderful school year! Please do not hesitate to contact me as my door is always open.

Patrice Edison -  Founder

When I was asked by the Superintendent of District 20 to write a proposal for a new elementary school, I did not have to look far for inspiration. My personal experiences and the fact that I had been fortunate throughout my career to work with great teachers and administrators pointed me down a very clear path.

The person I am was shaped by experiences in the arts. From my earliest memories of elementary school, to my high school and college days performing on the great stages of New York with the All City Chorus and Concert Choir, I knew that the arts offered children the opportunity to find their passion, and pursue it. Working under the direction of great artists and great teachers I had found my voice, not just my singing voice, but my confidence and the clarity of vision to know who I was and what I wanted in life.

As a young teacher I would sit with my friends and talk about what a school would look like and sound like if we could be in charge. Always at the core were passionate, caring teachers who focused on what their students could do, not on what they couldn’t do. This was my blueprint for 264. Working as the Assistant Principal for PS/IS 104 I was inspired by several dedicated teachers. Together we decided that 264 would focus on giving children a well rounded arts based education.

Not many principals have the opportunity to hand select each and every individual that would interact with children in their school, but I did. I knew that dedication to children needed to walk hand in hand with strong content knowledge and an openness to new methods and ideas. I could not be prouder of the 264 staff. We have been fortunate to work with families who share our passion and dedication to making the school community a place where everyone can thrive and succeed. Together, we are a strong community and I look forward to watching you all continue to grow and learn under Ms. Bolognino’s guidance.
